WHAT IS THE BUTTERFLY PROGRAM?
Peaceful Solutions Counseling offers education/therapy groups for the children of Marathon County whose parents are currently going through a divorce. This one time (2 ½ hour) session is offered to children of all ages when there is a divorce or separation occuring.
We believe that when children meet with peers who are going through a similar experience, kids usually emerge with a newfound sense of confidence, hope, and community. They realize that they are not alone; that it is normal to feel anxious, angry, sad, and confused about their parents’ separation and divorce. Through The Butterfly Program we have a chance to give these children more effective coping skills to help them better survive this difficult transition and tension.
In order to register for the program, please call our office at 715-675-3458.
Our groups will help children:
•
Understand their feelings are normal and that they are not alone.
•
Express their thoughts and feelings productively in a neutral, supportive

environment.
•
Understand how divorce affects them and learn skills to handle their reactions to it.
•
See problems differently and create coping skills that lead to life changes related and unrelated to divorce.
•
Understand that many types of families are possible.
.
We offer four separate groups, and have the curriculum and discussions reflect their age and development. The groups may have up to eight children in each session.
1.
Ages 6-8
2.
Ages 9-11
3.
Ages 12-13
4.
Ages 14-17
It is a 2 1/2 hour program for children between the ages of 6-17. The curriculum helps children see they are normal and not alone with their feelings. Through group discussions, worksheets, role-playing, and other group exercises, children learn to cope, to understand and talk about their feelings. Children also learn how to talk with their parents and ask questions.
WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE PROGRAM?
The Butterfly course will be offered several times throughout the year at Peaceful Solutions Counseling. The child will be assigned to a small group according to their age. We will not schedule a group until there is a sufficent number of participants.
We always schedule the sessions on Saturday mornings from 9-11:30 am. At 11:30 we ask that the parents stay for a brief overview and wrap-up.
This 2 1/2 hour group will be led by two professional and trained facilitators.
There will be snacks available for the children. If there are any food allergies, please notify a staff member.
WHAT IS THE COST AND HOW DO WE REGISTER?
The fee for participating in The Butterfly program is $ 50.00, ($ 100.00 maximum per family)
