REAL MEN RESPECT CAMPAIGN!
In Marathon County we are wanting all men to read and sign a pledge that speaks of ten ideas that lead us toward non-violence, equality and respect. We encourage agencies, companies, churches, etc, to take this project on and be part of the solution. We would be happy to send or e-mail you the pledge sheets so you can begin this process. As a REAL man who RESPECTS women, I hereby pledge to...
1. Live a life of non-violence.
2. Take full responsibility for my thoughts, feelings, & actions.
3. Recognize abusive behavior as a choice. I pledge to walk away from
conflicts before I become too angry. I pledge to seek support & options when I need it so I can make healthy choices.
4. Recognize that domestic violence encompasses much more than physical
violence. I do not have to be physically violent to be abusive. I pledge to truly
examine my own behavior for ways that I am controlling, manipulative, intimidating,
isolating, or otherwise hurtful to my loved ones.
5. Consider my family's feelings when making decisions.
6. Raise my children to respect themselves & others by parenting them in a
respectful & assertive manner, so they may grow to practice assertive,
non-abusive solutions to conflicts.
7. Take an active part in building a society in which abuse between spouse,
parents & children, friends, lovers, neighbors, & nations is forever
unacceptable.
8. Treat all women with respect, dignity, & equality by listening to &
respecting their thoughts, emotions, & choices.
9. Stand by victims who need me.
10. Be an active voice against violence in my community.
